Treatment Complications Policy – The Nordic Skin Clinic

At The Nordic Skin Clinic, your safety and wellbeing are our highest priority.
While complications from aesthetic treatments are rare, we believe in full transparency, clinical accountability, and prompt management should an issue arise.

This policy explains how we identify, respond to, and support clients in the event of any adverse reaction or unexpected outcome.

1. Our Approach

All treatments at The Nordic Skin Clinic are performed by qualified, insured practitioners who follow strict medical protocols to ensure safety and precision.
We take every precaution to minimise risk through:

  • Comprehensive pre-treatment consultations
     
  • Accurate medical history assessment
     
  • High-quality, licensed products
     
  • Adherence to infection control and clinical safety standards
     

2. Identifying a Complication

A complication is defined as an unexpected or undesired reaction that occurs during or after a treatment, which may include but is not limited to:

  • Allergic reactions
     
  • Infection
     
  • Prolonged swelling, redness, or pain
     
  • Vascular occlusion (for injectable procedures)
     
  • Adverse responses to skincare or chemical peels
     

We ensure all clients are fully informed of potential side effects before treatment begins.


3. Reporting a Complication

For urgent issues (e.g. sudden pain, vision changes, or signs of infection), seek immediate medical assistance by calling 999 or visiting A&E, and notify us as soon as possible.


4. Clinical Response

Upon notification of a complication:

  • The case will be assessed promptly by a qualified practitioner.
     
  • We will determine the nature and severity of the issue and take appropriate clinical action.
     
  • All incidents are documented in your client record and, where required, reported to our medical prescriber or supervising clinician.
     
  • In the event of a vascular emergency or other serious complication, we follow established medical emergency protocols and refer to appropriate healthcare providers if necessary.
     

5. Follow-Up and Support

  • We provide all necessary follow-up appointments, reviews, and aftercare to support your recovery and treatment outcome.
     
  • Where applicable, corrective treatment or prescription medication may be arranged.
     
  • We maintain open communication until the matter is fully resolved to your satisfaction.
     

6. Continuous Improvement

Every reported complication is reviewed as part of our ongoing clinical governance and risk management process.
We use these reviews to continually improve our safety standards, practitioner training, and client care procedures.


7. Insurance and Compliance

All treatments are covered by comprehensive professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
